Lakshadweep Islands is a sheer poetry of the blue shades of the sea and sky. The mystic whiteness and greenary of land merging, intermingling and generating a symphony of liveness. Lakshadweep is truly a rhythm of Land and Sea.

The Lakshadweep Islands are a string of little known islands, lying approximately 320 kilometers (200 miles) off the south west coast of India. There are thirty six islands in all, comprising coral atolls, submerged banks and reefs. It is commonly believed that the islands were discovered by ship wrecked sailors during the reign of Cheraman Perumal, a legendary king of Kerala, around 354 AD.

Lakshadweep enjoys a tropical climate with summer temperatures ranging from 30 - 33 0 C during April and May and winter temperatures from 27 - 32 degrees C during the months of September to March. Water Temperature is usually around 25 - 27 degrees C. Southwest monsoons from May to early September bring plenty of rainfall to the islands. Northeast monsoons also result in some rains during October and November. However, rainfall is scanty and falls as passing showers. Cool sea breeze and the abundant shade bestowed by the canopy of coconut palms make the climate pleasant even during peak summer.

Today the population of Lakshadweep is around 60,000 spread over 10 islands. The principal occupation of the people centers around fishing and coconut cultivation. The isolation of the islands has ensured the preservation of their pristine nature to the present day.
